Does SEO mean optimization for search engine's spiders not for humans?

Hello webmasters I am confused that why search engines do so much chages for SEO? We do SEO to get the business through search engine's ranking.There are so much penelty on website from search engine for which we are doing SEO. Does SEO mean optimization for search engine's spiders not for humans?:confused:

not true, we do seo for users also.
