Indexing in the Big G

I came to this web based forum site due to the fact that I have this need with regards to the whole matter of having this site of mine indexed in the Big G or Google search engine directory. They are saying that the whole matter is really hard and it is really the duty of the webmaster to have the web based site really ready for it. I have already fitted my site with all the tools that will be needed to make it visible. I am just clueless as to what more I can do for the whole site to make it easy for it to be indexed by the Big G.

Create a sitemap and submit it to Google via webmaster tools.
