I know that no follow doesn't help in back linking but whether nofollow helps to improve SERP of the site or not??

Google not crawl and ignore to no follow links, so may be no follow links not helps improve SERP.

No Follow allows you to maintain a sort of balance between NO follow as well as high Page ranking do follow, this in turn makes your backlinks look natural to Google which is very beneficial.

Google not crawl that link and pass the pr value as well as consider the backlink. So, it not helpful to improve the serp. But, other search engines behaves same for this link also.

No fallow link first of all you are your website modifies or on page optimization.
