I do believe that SEO is important because it can help your business reach the target market you are aiming. Also, users trust websites that appear on the top 5 suggestions in the results page. It is a great social promotion that can put you ahead of the competition.

What sort of question is this? SEO is never dead and hence its importance will remain intact in 2018 too, just like it is in 2017 and was in previous years.

I expect that the tried and true methods will still continue to be valuable but I also believe there will be a continued emphasis on user experience which relates to a lot of different elements:

Mobile optimization / amp
Site load time
Site quality metrics (potentially incorporating bounce rates or similar metrics)
Continued emphasis on localization (where applicable)
Continued focus on understanding query intent and improving contextual results
