A major part of NH 7 covers the North-South Corridor of NHDP and it is officially listed as running over 2,369 km (1,472 mi) from Varanasi to Kanyakumari. It is the longest national highway in India.

Currently, NH-44 is the longest highway in India. It starts from Srinagar (J&K) and ends at Kanyakumari (Tamilnadu). The total length of this highway is 3,745km. Previously this highway was known as NH-07 and it was starting from Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) and was ending at Kanyakumari (Tamilnadu).
