Canonical tag is used to remove the duplicay issue with landing pages. If you have same landing page with different url then you must add canonical tag in your webpage which is important or you want to index in google database.

The main role of canonical tag which is used by the search engine in the issue of a duplicate content relevant web page on the website and assign a value that web page for duplicate content.
