Difference between http and https?

Hello friends,

What are the Difference between http and https?

v.shukla 07-07-2016 06:48 AM

Rather than HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP), this site utilizes HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS). Utilizing HTTPS, the PCs concede to a "code" amongst them, and after that, they scramble the messages utilizing that "code" so that nobody in the middle of can read them. This keeps your data safe from hackers.

https is a secured mode of communication where data is encrypted. http is not encrypted.

Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website that you are connected to. The 'S' at the end of HTTPS stands for 'Secure'. It means all communications between your browser and the website are encrypted.

The main difference is of security. If you use https version for your website, it makes your data secure which is shared between the browser and the server.

HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP),
HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS).

You click to check out at an online merchant. Suddenly your browser address bar says HTTPS instead of HTTP. What's going on? Is your credit card information safe?

Good news. Your information is safe. The website you are working with has made sure that no one can steal your information.

Instead of HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP), this website uses HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS).

Using HTTPS, the computers agree on a "code" between them, and then they scramble the messages using that "code" so that no one in between can read them. This keeps your information safe from hackers.

They use the "code" on a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), sometimes called Transport Layer Security (TLS) to send the information back and forth.

"S" means Secure Server. HTTP means Hyper Text Transfer Protocol and HTTPS means Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure.

HTTP : HTTP is Hyper Text Transfer protocol that is used in networking. Whenever basically you type a website in the browser, its is this protocol which by default listens at port 80 on server side and helps you to see the webpage on your machine.

HTTPS : This is Hyper text Transfer protocol with added security layer in place in form on TLS/SSL. Servers and clients communicate with each other exactly same as HTTP but over a secure channel.

HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS).

Data sent using HTTPS is secured via Transport Layer Security protocol (TLS), which provides three key layers of protection:
Encryption
Data integrity
Authentication

http is used for url purpose where as https is used for secure sites.for e.g fb

1. HTTP operates at an application layer, while HTTPS operates at the transport layer.

2. No SSL certificates are required for HTTP, with HTTPS it is required that you have an SSL certificate and it is signed by a CA.

3. HTTP doesn’t require domain validation, where as HTTPS requires at least domain validation and certain certificates even require legal document validation.

4. No encryption in HTTP, with HTTPS the data is encrypted before sending.
