It will be better if you have alt tag on images for SEO, google will index images as will for the keyword in alt tag however in my opinon its not necessary.

In image alt tag which means you give a name of that image, google will crawl that image by name

Alt tag or alternate text helps in crawling of image and indexing in google database. If your image take long time in loading then with the help of alt tag user can get the idea about what is this image.
