What is W3C validation in SEO?

W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) is an organisation founded to create and maintain Web standards.
So, basically this validation checks how a website conforms to the latest standards.
It doesn't have much influence on SEO, just shows how well website was created by its developer and does it use best current practices.

Would you recommend spending time on fixing errors found by W3C validator, or just disregard and move on as long as the website gets decent traffic and makes money?

Founded in 1994 the consortium is still the main web standard against which all websites are evaluated. The most well known W3C tool is Markup Validation Service that checks the markup validity of Web documents in HTML, XHTML, SMIL, MathML, etc.

W3C validation is a process which is used to check HTML and XHTML files for well written codes. This process will help bring to light any discrepancies in the code and thus enable you to correct them.

W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) is an association established to make and keep up Web guidelines.

Thus, essentially this approval checks how a site fits in with the most recent norms.

It doesn't have much impact on SEO, just shows how well site was made by its designer and does it utilize best current practices.

WC3 stands for “Wide Web Consortium,” which is essentially a company that develops standards for code on the web. If you are going to use WC3 validation, it means that you are making sure your website is up to the coding standards set out by the Wide Web Consortium—it checks the HTML code for proper markup.

A subject that has been talked about widely by a few people in the SEO people group is the thought that having a W3C agreeable site is either basic to SEO or it's most certainly not. Most as of late, Edward Lewis and I bantered forward and backward on Twitter, with Edward holding firm to his long-standing position that consistence is essential and me standing firm that 100% consistence is not really a figure positioning.
