I would like to know, How does Instagram work out the Top Posts

Instagram describes the top posts as those which are trending but other people have posted images since which have achieved more likes than mine so they should, in theory, be first.

Top posts appear on trending hashtags and places to show you some of the popular ... Something's Not Working ... At the top of some hashtag and place pages you may see a section called Top Posts
