An inbound link is a link coming from another site to your own website. "Inbound" is generally used by the person receiving the link.

Outbound links are links from your website to another website.

These are the links pointing to other websites from your website and you have more control over these links. People have different views about outbound links and many say that it is against the SEO rules and search engines can penalize you for doing this. This approach is wrong; I know Google cannot penalize me if I put a link to Google inside my post. My theory is that you should link to relevant content if it gives more information to your readers.

So if you have a web-site A (your site) and there is a web-site B, and the web-site B is mentioning your web-site. It's creating an inbound link to your web-site A, because it's a link that's coming in.Jan 28, 2013
