both are important for increasing websites ranking you can do SEO and SMO forum posting, blog submission, article submission and other social marketing

Search Engine Optimization is a technique of developing the website visibility and keyword prominence. On the other hand SMO or social media optimization is a procedure to tell the visitors about your product or services.

So for better keywords ranking, SEO strategy works far better than SMO.
