Why html is called markup language..?

Please tell me, Why html is called markup language..?

HTML is not a programming language, it's just used to define different blocks of the data (text, images, etc.) on your page, so it fits in an entirely different category of computer languages.

The term hypertext refers to the process of linking text to data on the internet, while markup means modify or improve. So, HTML is called hypertext markup language because it is a language that allows users to organize, improve the appearance of, and link text with data on the internet.

Markup languages are designed for the processing, definition and presentation of text.
