My website is multilingual, currently being css and html based. I have 100 plus pages all in the main directory, where the index.html file is found.
My French language html pages have their own French key words. English pages have their English keywords and Spanish pages have their spanish keywords. However all my URL are French based. For example, a learning page would be named : "apprendre.html" (French), "apprendre_en" (English), "apprendre_es" (Spanish).
This, I came to realize, is a problem for my search engine results in English and in Spanish. I hardly come up at all in google. The name of my html page and all the cross linking I do within my site always sounds French to search engines. So my site does not come up much in English or in Spanish, while it does quite well in French, the default language, and the one that has additional pdf files not translated into English or Spanish.
I am moving over to WordPress for the future version of my site, naming my pages carefully with WordPress permalink functionality, so that my web pages are not named with a number, but with a name that makes sense both to humans and to search engines.
