I live in Florida (not in Miami). I would suggest anything on South Beach. And stay close to the beach area's when wandering. As far as the keys, I can tell you Key west, you better have a hotel with a private beach or you will be very disappointed. The only public beach on that island is about 200 feet long. And on that small patch of beach is the Maker for the Southern Most point in the US. So its packed with tourists. There are lots of other keys with great hotels and larger public beaches, just not Key West itself.
