i've personally never had a recovery after i've lost traffic to a site. Now, I mostly just try to write good articles, then submit them to social media. You can get a ton of traffic if you submit to the right places.

Depends on how much you are posting blogs/forums/social media really. Are you talking about google places ranking or organic search ranking?

First you need to check your webmaster account is there any mail from Google about your website penalized. if their then you may need to refresh your website with all the inbound low quality link. you can take the help of Google Disavow tool, this is best for removing the low quality back-links.
