How important is Domain Age to SEO?

It's still an unknown for me.

I had a domain name 9 year old and worth nothing.

Any sharing in this regard?

C.Rebecca 02-28-2012 12:02 AM

An old domain is worth it, if and only if,

- It has a good number of relevant, authority backlinks
- It has a high PR
- It is a reputed domain (i.e. it enjoyed a good search ranking)

Age in itself, does not guarantee rankings.

amitmax 02-28-2012 06:02 AM

Having old domain name never means to get rank well in Google. You need to perform quality SEO work with quality content on that domain.Old domain can help you to get rank fast but you will need to perform SEO work.

The most important thing by Googles updated algorithm is Content. Tour content should be unique, subject oriented. Other thing is backlinks. These two factors do lot for ranking

shakir 02-28-2012 10:24 PM

Age is factor in SEO but if will be considered only in the well optimized sites. Aged site with quality content and Well optmized(on and off) better than new optimized site

Yes I agree with you.

Diane Forster 03-01-2012 01:14 AM

I'd say domain age is one of the factors that influence better SEO ranking.

shaunmark8 03-01-2012 01:39 AM

it is very much important.

printbucket 04-17-2012 07:09 PM

While domain age is a factor in SEO, its not a huge deciding factor. As others have mentioned, you also need some backlinks and it is a reputed domain. But as an older name it does have a bit of a head start compared to a fresh site.

veneer_splicer 04-17-2012 08:26 PM

Good SEO strategy can make your site ranking

josefaryan 04-17-2012 10:23 PM

No matter how old is the domain name. The thing is how many backlinks that a domain have. If a domain name having more no. of backlinks then it will be a help for us in getting high page rank easily.

andersonsjohn 04-18-2012 10:08 PM

When we start SEO for a fresh website, We have to index website in major search engines. Search engines take time to index websites. If your domain is really old , Search engines give preference to index fast.Domain age consideration is one of the point of SEO

Bodhost 04-19-2012 04:25 AM

Domain age is a very important part in case of SEO, because if you are doing SEO for very old domain, then this will increase the faith for other webmasters who will directly impact the SEO work.

canon32 04-19-2012 01:29 PM

yeah this is it [Age in itself, does not guarantee rankings.]

sunilgupta 04-20-2012 12:37 AM

Yes old domain age is useful in SEO & Old domain age is very much important !
Age is factor in SEO but if will be considered only in the well optimized sites

Whereas Domain Authority measures the predictive ranking strength of entire domains or subdomains, Page Authority measures the strength of individual page. The same is true for metrics such as MozRank and MozTrust.

Such a informative post

minester 04-21-2012 04:56 AM

Domain age factor in as part of their algorithm for sure. It doesn't replace keywords, but it will add value to them.

crescendo 04-22-2012 11:31 AM

Domain age is no matter in seo. My lots of website still on top position in search engines.

Allcityloan 04-24-2012 12:31 AM

Its nice having old domain . enjoy

john.cena 04-24-2012 03:59 AM

I think, domain edge is very important to increase the website rank.

stevejustine 04-27-2012 02:45 AM

Based on your scenario, it looks like a very easy place to rank. The pages currently ranking there are only ranking because of their age, they obviously aren't even trying to rank for your keyword.

So for that reason, you will be able to beat them with some strong onpage SEO and a little link building.

Thanks.

Domain Age is an important to get the best backlink for your website.

How important is Domain Age to SEO

Domain age does matter but clearly in association with many other factors. There are quality signals that the Search Engines are looking out for before they allow a site to rank well for competitive queries & domain age is likely one of them.

samlko 02-08-2013 05:14 AM

Old domains may carry more weight due to their past records.

ashutoshjoshi19 02-08-2013 06:35 AM

Although domain age is a factor for SEO, but it will worth only if you keep updating your website till then.
If you would have been updating your website for 9 years with genuine content you would have been on top.. :)

Imagen-Estilo 02-10-2013 03:17 AM

I would like to think that over time, if you keep the content of your website fresh and up to date that it would automatically rise to the top of the rankings but I dont believe it is as easy as that. Links links and more links are what you need and then the whole trust rank thing needs to be built up

sam davis 02-10-2013 10:02 PM

Well-established sites have old domain names, so by reverse logic, an old domain should mean that the site is well established.

Macsheen 02-11-2013 12:36 AM

Old domain has several advantages 1) Trustworthiness of website 2) Known by search engines 3) Sometimes helps to achieve better search engine rank.

M2Mainak 02-11-2013 10:03 AM

Old Domain does not guarantee rankings in Google. You need to have high quality backlinks from authorative sites and a high PR to get the worth of old domains.

peterfreddy 02-20-2013 03:07 AM

The age of the domain is built up of how long the content has been actually on the web, how long the site has been in promotion, and even the last time content was updated.
So the age of the domain name plays a vital role in ranking.........
If you are having an old domain name...........that adds more credibility to your search engine rankings..
especially google gives more importance to domain age...........
So using this site www.WhoisXY.com , you can gather the information of the domain name creator and owner of the domain name also it displays the information of the domain name that is when is expired & created........its a easy way to find the age of domain name.........

josephjohn230 02-20-2013 03:15 AM

Yeah I agree with your answer. Domain name does not matter a lot. Quality work will rock your website in SERPs.

johnstamos00000 02-22-2013 12:04 AM

Domain age is most important factor for SEO

outure11 02-22-2013 06:14 AM

There are many attributes that go into what shows up on the first page of the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) and one of those attributes is called Domain Age.

Kunalmathur 02-23-2013 12:07 PM

thanks for given information...

david0019 02-25-2013 06:36 AM

it is good for seo that your domain is old.Domain age is important as long as over the period of time it had some kind of content. If you had a domain but didn't have any website there, age will not make much difference. However if for example over the period of several years you had domain with some kind of content, the age will indicate that your site is reliable and it should help you score higher in SERPs.
