I use Google Keyword Planner tool and Ahrefs tool to find out competitors' keywords and then insert the ones that I can SEO to my initial SEO list. Hope that helps.

I first find very huge number of keywords. I do that using ubersuggest, google keyword planner and google trends. I then use keyword difficulty tool and I also see the search intent of the keywords. I go with less difficult keywords and believe me they are many keywords in every niche that have high volume and low difficulty.
