Do proper keyword research and select some low competition keywords.
Write high quality articles, do social shares, create some links to that post with proper anchor text, do some interlink.

to get keywords on first page, it depends on the keyword, if it is competitive then your website will not attain first page position for targeted keywords, if it is less competitive then it is possible.

i agree you have to do keyword research,and build quality back links on relevant pages. this will help you rank on the first page of google but you must be diligent and consistant or you wont see any results also seo is very important when it comes to ranking.
