I think SEO is the better

seo is search engine optimization and smo is social media optimization.
seo is used as on page optimization and off page optimization whereas smo is SMM social media marketing comes under off page optimization.

I prefer smo

These days both are needed because most search engines see both as indicators of authority, quality and popularity.
