Ill be honest i never heard of Magento. I only heard of wordpress a month ago however since using it, its AMAZING!. The fact you can add plugins easily has b een a godsend.

It depends on the websites purpose.
Magento is good for E-commerce sites.
WordPress is good for creating an informational site.
