Not sure about the maximum invitations allowed. But if you add too many people in a day, you can get banned from Facebook.

Why do you need too many friends? If you are representing a website or business, I think you have to create a Facebook page for it. It wouldn't hurt and still would give the same functions--but people won't be questioning you about having 4000+ friends not unless you're lady gaga. :)

if you are sending request in bulk then FB will count it in spamming
