Do not waist so much time in competitore analysis..i too waste too much time in that but now i have realised that it is better to do seo rather than comparing our sites with our competitors..it has its own significance but dont waste too much time for that..
Try to build quality backlinks by directory submissions, blog and forum comments, send link requests to theme related websites, write few articles and submit it various article directories..have patience for at least 4 to 5 months and the traffic will flow to your site..

I think the question is hard. For me if I will use this method I will try to check all the best backlinks from each of my competitors and build links on them.

Analyse your competitor links and try to get the same links. Allocate a regular period - one hour a day perhaps - where you try to regulalry build links. After some weeks and months, your site should start to perform well.

I think this is very bad advice. You should definitely see what your competitors are doing, specifically the competitors in the top of the search engines. Why would you not? Obviously they are doing something that works. Do what they are doing, just do more of it and you will move ahead of them. Why change what works?
