It will give you some but they can't be self promoting or the enzine wont publish them

Articles provide one way link that is very important for the website. If you have lot of one way links, your site will be rank. you can get huge traffic through article links.

article is a good way to get backlinks,prlog.org is good.If you want to creat an article directory,more articles contain,more traffics visit,i think it is useful for your site.

You can also do link wheels it is more effective than article submissions as long as you know how to do it effectively.

articlebiz, articlecity, goarticles, ezinearticles are some good websites for article submission. Article submission helps to drive traffic and also to get backlink.
