I saw that most of the facebook applications are developed on php so i also want to create a social networking application so i wanna know which language is suitable for social networking application PHP or DOT NET.

Both are Good but i think you should use PHP as it is open source and free and also easy to learn and implement

Mostly, web pages are created using the php language because it is web centric and can be associated with other language like java. Php is an open source which you can find more resources through internet. If i were you, i would try to use php.
